Texas Politician in Critical Condition After Violent Knife Attack Leaves Husband Dead

A shocking act of violence has rocked Denton County, Texas, as local politician Bobbie Mitchell fights for her life following a brutal stabbing at her home.

The attack, which also claimed the life of her husband, Fred, has left the community in shock and disbelief.

Mitchell, a longtime public servant and the first black mayor of Lewisville, is currently recovering in the hospital after sustaining critical injuries.

Her 23-year-old grandson, Blake Reinacher, was arrested at the scene and now faces charges of murder and aggravated assault.

The violent incident unfolded early Monday morning at the Mitchell family’s home on Springwood Drive in Lewisville.

Just before 4 a.m., local police received a call reporting an assault. Officers arrived to find both Bobbie Mitchell and her husband suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the Daily Mail.

While Fred Mitchell was rushed to a nearby hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries just after 5 a.m.

Bobbie Mitchell, though critically wounded, was stabilized and remains in stable condition at a local medical facility. The motive for the attack remains unclear as investigators continue their inquiry.

Blake Reinacher, the couple’s grandson, was immediately arrested at the scene and booked into jail.

Bobbie Mitchell has spent much of her life serving the public.

She became a trailblazer in 1993 after becoming the mayor of Lewisville.

She continued her public service career by stepping down from the mayor’s office in 2000 to pursue her role as Denton County Commissioner, where she has worked tirelessly for the betterment of the community.

Known for her commitment to local issues and her inclusive leadership style, Mitchell has earned the respect of her colleagues and the citizens of Denton County, the outlet notes.

The tragic event has drawn widespread attention, with political leaders and community members expressing their sorrow and support for the Mitchell family.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy and I extend my sincerest condolences to the Mitchell family,” said Gerard Hudspeth, mayor of Denton, in a statement, according to the Daily Mail.

“Commissioner Mitchell has spent years supporting the residents of Denton County, now her family needs our prayers and compassion. I stand ready to assist in any way needed as they navigate their profound grief.”

Rep. Mitch Little (R-TX) also expressed his sympathy and called for community support.

“I hope you will join me in praying for our County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell today, who lost her husband and was seriously injured in a violent incident this morning,” Little wrote on X.

“She has faithfully served our community for many years, and she could certainly use our love and support right now. Please pray for her healing and recovery and for peace over her family.”

According to Bobbie Mitchell’s bio on the Denton County Commissioners’ website, the couple has nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, WFAA reports.
