Karmelo Anthony Press Conference Erupts in Drama as Victim’s Father Escorted Out – Then the Unthinkable Happens
A news conference held by the family of Karmelo Anthony, a Texas teenager accused of fatally stabbing a classmate, descended into chaos Thursday when the victim’s father was removed from the event and the family spokesman launched accusations of racism and bigotry.
Anthony, 17, faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly stabbing Austin Metcalf to death during a dispute at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2.
He was released from the Collin County Jail after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000, TTOA previously reported.
Jeff Metcalf, father of the victim, confirmed that he attempted to attend the Dallas press conference but was escorted away under threat of criminal trespass charges.
The Dallas Police Department stated that “one person was asked to leave the location and did so without incident” and “no offense was reported.”
Dominique Alexander, head of the Next Generation Action Network activist group representing Anthony, immediately condemned Metcalf’s presence at the event.
“What we’ve seen at the beginning of this press conference, of the father being at this press conference, these are my words—don’t quote anybody—is a disrespect to the dignity of his son,” Alexander said.
Alexander accused Metcalf of trying to make the case about “politics and bigotry” while claiming his organization had “respected the loss of life” and refrained from attacking the victim’s character.
The press conference was initially called to address two issues: allegations about misuse of over $450,000 in GiveSendGo donations for Anthony’s family and to allow Anthony’s mother, Kayla Hayes, to make a statement.
Alexander insisted no donations had been spent, calling suggestions otherwise “intentional disinformation” and stating, “Let’s be clear. The family has not received one dime.”
He also criticized Frisco Independent School District’s plans to expel Anthony a month before graduation despite his 3.7 GPA.
Alexander partially shifted blame to the school district, suggesting they should have canceled the track meet due to weather conditions.
“Because as a person who is the administrator of yet children, you are responsible for the safety of the children,” he said.
“And so it seems as if Frisco ISD is trying to push this off by making [the decision to expel Anthony] that they do not have to make.”
A spokesperson for the district told Fox News Digital they could not comment on specific student disciplinary matters but explained their general protocol, noting that students recommended for expulsion are not allowed on school property while the decision is pending and have the opportunity to present their side at a hearing.
When finally given the opportunity to speak, Hayes delivered an emotional statement: “Our family has been under attack.”
“Whatever you think, what happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boy, my three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about.”
She described how their address had been shared on social media, forcing her husband to take a leave of absence from work and affecting their children’s sense of security.
“My husband had to take a leave of absence because he’s afraid of what may happen to our family,” Hayes said, adding that her husband’s mental health was deteriorating and her daughter was afraid to sleep in her own bed.
Alexander later returned to racial themes, asserting Anthony deserved the same legal rights as Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny, adding that “racist bigots” were trying to prevent them from defending Anthony.
“Because these racist bigots try to prevent us from standing up for our baby, our boy, he should be afforded the same rights that Kyle Rittenhouse had, Daniel Penny and all the people who have claimed whatever their defense was – he should be afforded the same right,” Alexander said.
This contrasts with Jeff Metcalf’s previous statements to Fox News where he explicitly stated, “This was not a race thing. This is not a political thing. Do not politicize this…this is a human being thing.”
Metcalf, who described Austin as “the light of my life,” also spoke about forgiveness, saying, “The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace.”
Metcalf previously told America Reports that Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who desperately tried to stop the bleeding.
“They were so tight. They had the best bond. They were best friends,” Metcalf said of the pair. “And now I have to focus on taking care of Hunter.”
According to arrest reports, the fatal incident occurred after an altercation under a Memorial High School tent.
Witnesses stated Anthony reached into his bag for a knife after telling Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.”
In the next moment, a witness told police, Anthony “reached into his bag and the male took a knife out of the bag and stabbed Austin.”
One responding officer noted that when Anthony was apprehended, he made a “spontaneous statement,” saying, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”
The report also indicates Anthony asked officers if Metcalf was “going to be OK” and whether the incident could be considered “self-defense.”
UPDATE: Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, is refusing to leave the public press conference for Karmelo Anthony.

Insanity. Dominique Alexander, who represents Karmelo Anthony, just attacked Austin Metcalf's father Jeff for attending a press conference held by the Anthony family, calling his presence “a disrespect to the dignity of his son."
This is revolting. pic.twitter.com/j6Hnsb8e95
