Trump Pulls Federal Funding to Illegal Aliens, Redirects Cash to Select Groups of Americans by Signing Explosive EO
In a sweeping move to combat illegal immigration, President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday halting taxpayer-funded benefits to illegal immigrants, marking one of his most significant immigration policy changes since taking office and sending border crossing numbers plunging to levels unseen in four decades.
The executive order, which builds upon a 1996 welfare reform law, directs federal agencies to immediately identify and terminate all federally funded programs providing financial benefits to immigrants in the country illegally.
The order aims to “safeguard Federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans,” according to a White House fact sheet.
The administration claims the move addresses what it characterizes as the previous administration’s undermining of existing immigration laws, with Trump asserting that the Biden administration’s border policies resulted “in the improper expenditure of significant taxpayer resources.”
Trump’s order takes direct aim at his predecessor’s immigration policies, particularly targeting the controversial CBP One app that allowed approximately 900,000 migrants to enter through the Mexican border.
TTOA previously reported that the program, along with a separate initiative that permitted over 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to fly to the US with financial sponsors, was immediately terminated under the new directive.
The Biden administration had also granted parole status to nearly 300,000 people from Ukraine and Afghanistan, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
The outlet noted that under previous policies, individuals granted parole for at least a year were classified as “qualified non-citizens,” making them eligible for certain income-based benefits after five years, including Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The order’s reach extends beyond direct federal benefits, targeting sanctuary cities by ensuring “Federal funds to states and localities will not be used to support ‘sanctuary’ policies or assist illegal immigration.”
It also mandates improved benefit eligibility verification processes to prevent unauthorized immigrants from accessing public assistance, per the outlet.
Early indicators suggest the administration’s hardline approach is yielding unprecedented results.
Border Czar Tom Homan reported on Monday that Border Patrol encountered only 229 migrants attempting to cross into the United States within 24 hours – a dramatic decrease from the peak of 11,000 daily crossings during the Biden administration.
“I started as a Border Patrol Agent in 1984 and I don’t remember the number ever being that low,” Homan stated. “President Trump promised a secure border and he is delivering.”
The administration has also intensified interior enforcement efforts.
Daily Mail reported that Homan highlighted the focus on “interior arrests,” noting there are over 600,000 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions currently in the United States.
“So I won’t be happy until we eradicate every one of those,” he declared.
This executive order follows Trump’s day-one immigration actions, which included attempts to end automatic citizenship for U.S.-born individuals and asylum at the southern border, though the birthright citizenship order faces ongoing legal challenges.
The administration has also authorized military personnel to serve as immigration enforcement officials and prioritized border wall construction.
The administration’s approach to immigration enforcement took an unusual turn on Valentine’s Day when the White House social media accounts posted a holiday-themed message featuring Trump and Homan against a pink background, stating: “Roses are red, violets are blue, come here illegally and we’ll deport you.”
While some immigration policies face legal scrutiny, including the birthright citizenship order currently halted in court, the administration continues to implement strict border control measures.
Daily Mail reported that Trump has ended the “catch and release” policy, opting instead for detention and deportation of illegal entrants, while also pausing the US Refugee Admission Program pending review.
