Kamala Harris Faces Major Setback as Marriage Controversies Raise Questions About Political Future: Report
Former Vice President Kamala Harris, once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, is reportedly facing mounting personal and professional challenges following her loss in the 2024 presidential election. As Harris contemplates her political future, including a potential 2026 California gubernatorial run or another shot at the presidency in 2028, she is facing increasing scrutiny of her marriage to former second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
Sources close to the couple suggest that Harris, who previously appeared affectionate and united with Emhoff during her campaign, may now view him as a liability and “dead weight” rather than an asset.
“There’s plenty of blame to go around as far as Kamala is concerned and Doug has his share,” one source told the Daily Mail.
The source went on to suggest that Emhoff’s personal controversies, including an affair and a troubling past, have not helped his wife’s image.
“Doug did Kamala no favors during the election – frankly, he looked like a hypocritical a** after the bombshells that he had got his child’s nanny pregnant while married to his first wife and assaulted his ex-girlfriend on the heels of his ‘I am woman’ crusade,” the source explained.
Emhoff, who famously stepped down from his successful law career to support Harris’s political ambitions in 2020, was embroiled in a series of scandals that Harris struggled to address during her campaign. In August, it was reported that Emhoff had an affair with his daughter’s nanny, which allegedly resulted in a pregnancy and a subsequent miscarriage.
The affair, which occurred during his first marriage, reportedly played a role in his 2009 divorce. He later paid the nanny $80,000 for a non-disclosure agreement.
Furthermore, in October, a former girlfriend came forward with a disturbing allegation, claiming that Emhoff slapped her at a 2012 Cannes event after believing she was flirting with another man.
Emhoff has denied this allegation through a spokesperson. However, his past behavior reportedly caused further damage to Harris’s campaign.
Despite their public appearances, including attending President Donald Trump’s inauguration together and attending former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, sources suggest that all is not well in the Harris-Emhoff household.
One source close to the couple remarked, “It’s not like she hasn’t had men help further her political career before, but what does Doug do for her now?”
Harris has reportedly been exploring ways to revitalize her political career.
“I was with her last week, when she was signing her desk,” her former communications chief Ashley Etienne told the Daily Mail. “She told me: ‘You know me well enough to know that I’m not going to go away quietly.’”
She is said to be considering a presidential run in 2028 and possibly even a book deal that could significantly improve her financial situation. However, with Emhoff’s ongoing controversies and their relationship reportedly under strain, Harris is said to be reassessing her marriage.
As Harris weighs her political future, the question remains whether Emhoff, who was once an integral part of her political brand, will continue to play a supportive role—or if he will become a burden that could ultimately harm her chances in future political races.
The growing tension between the couple comes as Harris is already grappling with the fallout from her loss to Trump. Her supporters had hoped for a strong comeback in 2028 but the shadow of her husband’s troubled past may prove difficult to overcome.
