What on Earth is Michigan Gov Whitmer Doing on TikTok?

Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer Gets Weird on TikTok, Feeds Doritos to Left-Wing Influencer

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer found herself at the center of controversy following the release of a peculiar video featuring her feeding Doritos to a liberal podcaster in what many viewers interpreted as a mockery of Catholic communion.

“This Gretchen Whitmer video is so bizarre that I’m at a loss for words,” one user said.

The video, posted on social media by left-wing influencer Liz Plank, shows Plank kneeling before Whitmer, who, wearing a camouflage Harris-Walz hat, places a Dorito chip on Plank’s tongue.

The staging immediately drew comparisons to the Catholic sacrament of Holy Communion, sparking outrage among religious conservatives and political commentators alike.

Plank, who represents an influencer group known as “Hotties For Harris,” attempted to frame the video as commentary on industrial policy, specifically referencing the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022.

In her caption, she claimed the act was “a game-changer for U.S. tech and manufacturing” while suggesting that President Donald Trump would jeopardize such progress.

The backlash was swift and severe.

Tim Graham, executive editor of NewsBusters, took to X to voice his concerns: “Many Catholics are going to see this as mocking the communion rail. Except Catholics don’t make it look like sensual.”

Trump adviser Tim Murtaugh echoed these sentiments, questioning the political wisdom of potentially alienating Catholic voters.

Conservative commentator Liz Wheeler seized the moment to highlight what she perceived as anti-Christian sentiment, stating, “It’s wild that some Christians refuse to vote when Democrats obviously loathe you… because you’re Christian.”

The controversy extends beyond religious implications.

Michigan Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt connected the video to ongoing state political disputes, particularly the controversial $175 million allocation to a company allegedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party.

Nesbitt suggested the governor had “lost her mind” or was attempting to “make Kamala Harris appear somewhat normal in comparison.”

The video appears to be an adaptation of a popular TikTok meme where friends feed each other while maintaining uncomfortable eye contact with the camera.

However, the political and religious undertones have overshadowed any attempt at humor or policy discussion.

As Michigan grapples with significant political issues, including the contentious Gotion EV battery factory project and its ties to China, this social media misstep has added fuel to an already heated political environment in the battleground state.

Whitmer, for her part, has been continuously roasted for her antics on social media. With one user sharing a clip of the governor showcasing a randomized display of Gen X slang.

Libs of Tik Tok posted, “I regret to inform you that Gretchen Whitmer is once again doing cringe skits on tiktok.”

“Everything about Democrats and Kamala’s campaign is staged, fake and forced.”
