Janet Jackson Ignites Liberal Media Firestorm After Claiming VP Harris Is ‘Not Black’
Music legend Janet Jackson caused the mainstream media and liberals to explode after saying that Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t black.
The remark was made in an interview with The Guardian, which was released on Saturday when the topic of Harris being “the first black female president” was brought up by Nosheen Iqbal.
“Well, you know what they supposedly said?” She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian,” the 58-year-old pop star said.
“Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
Jackson’s comments immediately triggered the mainstream media and liberals, who began calling her a conspiracy theorist and accusing her of making false claims.
“I have always been a fan of Janet Jackson but this just no. Stop,” one X user wrote.
“All Janet Jackson needs to know is Kamala Harris is blacker than Michael’s children,” another user wrote, referring to Jackson’s famous brother.
The Huffington Post’s headline on her statement read, “Janet Jackson Repeats False Claim On Harris’ Race,” while People went with, “Janet Jackson Falsely Claims Kamala Harris Is ‘Not Black.’”
Several X users called her “irresponsible” and blasted her for spreading “misinformation.”
While liberals bashed her and threatened to cancel her, conservatives and members of the black community were quick to jump to her defense.
“Let me find out y’all are trying to cancel Janet Jackson because she said what everybody was thinking..,” wrote Minnesota Republican Senate nominee Royce White. “Y’all can take my Black card too. Ain’t no way with Janet Jackson. At some point we gotta stop! How far y’all willing to go for these Democrats? Janet Jackson?! OH HELL NO!
“Janet Jackson spoke the truth. Kamala Harris Dad has said that he is Indo-Jamaican & Irish. He is not a Black American by Lineage. Therefore Kamala Harris is not Black, She is Indian/Indo-Jamaican/Irish,” one user wrote.
Another user wrote, “Everyone bashing Janet Jackson for saying she didn’t know Kamala Harris was black. Don’t hate the artist….hate the messenger. It’s what they told us.”
Jackson’s comments mirror what many conservatives have said, including former President Donald Trump, who has been a friend of the famous Jackson family for decades.
“She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said in an interview last month with the National Association of Black Journalists. I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black.”
Members of the black community have also questioned Harris’ racial identity. Last month, Resist the Mainstream covered a CNN video that shows black men in a barbershop questioning whether or not she was black.
One of the men said that he would “let her speak on that, but to me, no.”
“I share that same view,” another man said.
After her comments sparked major backlash, Jackson’s manager, Mo Elmasri, released a statement saying that her comments were “based on misinformation.”
“She deeply respects Vice President Kamala Harris and her accomplishments as a Black and Indian woman,” the statement to Buzzfeed said. “Janet apologizes for any confusion caused and acknowledges the importance of accurate representation in public discourse.”
