Thief Arrested After Stealing Kristi Noem’s $3K Gucci Bag in Washington, DC
The masked thief who allegedly stole Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s $3,000 Gucci bag containing her personal items has been arrested.
The incident took place on April 20, 2025, while Noem, 53, was dining with her family at The Capital Burger in Washington, DC.
The luxury bag contained not only $3,000 in cash but also Noem’s passport, driver’s license, DHS badge, and apartment keys.
The suspect was apprehended by a joint effort from the DC Metro Police and the Secret Service, sources confirmed.
While the identity of the suspect has not been revealed, sources believe he may be connected to a larger east coast robbery ring.
Noem’s Gucci bag, which retails for $4,400, was taken from her table during the family outing, as the New York Post reported.
Also inside the bag was a Louis Vuitton Clemence Purse valued at $600.
Surveillance footage from the restaurant showed the thief, a white male, wearing a N95 surgical mask, dark pants, and a fur-collared jacket.
The footage showed him scanning the restaurant before grabbing Noem’s bag, covering it with his jacket, and quickly leaving.
Noem, who oversees the Secret Service and other agencies, recounted the incident in a podcast with Vince Coglianese.
She described how she thought her grandkids were kicking her under the table, but it turned out to be the thief dragging her bag away.
“It was very professionally done,” Noem said, adding that she felt it was a reminder of the danger people face in communities.
The Secret Service, responsible for Noem’s protection, did not confirm if agents were inside the restaurant at the time of the theft.
Noem expressed uncertainty about whether the theft was specifically aimed at her due to her role in Homeland Security.
The second suspect believed to be involved in the robbery remains on the loose, with authorities continuing their investigation.
The thief is expected to appear in court next week, sources reported.
The arrest and ongoing investigation shed light on the sophisticated nature of the crime.
Kristi Noem’s family outing, which began as a peaceful Easter dinner, quickly turned into a shocking crime scene.
The full extent of the thief’s criminal activities remains unclear, as law enforcement continues to explore potential connections to other robberies.
While the arrest brings some resolution, authorities remain focused on capturing the second suspect.
The investigation has drawn significant attention, highlighting both the vulnerability of high-ranking officials and the persistence of organized crime.
