Trump Announces He Will Terminate Anti-GOP Federal Workers
President Donald Trump is shaking up the federal workforce with a new rule that aims to make it easier to remove government employees who oppose his agenda, pushing for Washington to “finally be ‘run like a business.’”
The new measure will reclassify employees involved in policy matters as “Schedule Policy/Career,” stripping them of civil service protections and making them “at-will” employees, subject to dismissal for poor performance or non-compliance with the president’s directives.
The measure was introduced by the Office of Personnel Management.
Trump expressed his frustration on Truth Social.
“If these government workers refuse to advance the policy interests of the President, or are engaging in corrupt behavior, they should no longer have a job,” he said.
“This is common sense, and will allow the federal government to finally be ‘run like a business.’ We must root out corruption and implement accountability in our Federal Workforce!” the president added.
This change, which affects about 2% of the federal workforce, could lead to the firing of approximately 50,000 workers who refuse to support the president’s agenda or engage in subversive activities, according to the New York Post.
Trump’s decision to revisit this policy is a continuation of his battle against what he views as a bureaucratic system that has often obstructed his plans.
The new rule is an extension of Trump’s earlier proposal of “Schedule F,” which was first introduced near the end of his first term.
While former President Joe Biden had rescinded this rule, Trump quickly reinstated it with an executive order on the first day of his second term.
Trump and his supporters have long claimed that career government officials, especially within the bureaucracy, have actively worked against the president’s goals.
They argue that these officials prioritize their own policy preferences over those of the president, undermining his leadership.
OPM estimates that removing a federal worker typically takes up to a year, considering the lengthy appeals process.
Under the new rule, however, the dismissal process will be expedited, allowing for quicker removal of those employees who are seen as prioritizing personal interests over the American people’s needs.
Chuck Ezell, Acting Director of OPM, reinforced the need for this change, stating that federal employees involved in policymaking “must be held to the highest standards of conduct.”
He added that Americans deserve a government that is not only effective but also accountable for its actions.
The policy shift is designed to hold bureaucrats accountable for their actions and ensure they implement the administration’s policies rather than act based on their own agendas.
Those who are directly involved in law enforcement or other frontline duties will generally be excluded from this new rule.
While the rule does not require federal workers to agree with the president politically, they are expected to implement the law and follow the administration’s policies.
This policy is a direct response to concerns about federal employees using their positions to block the president’s initiatives.
Trump’s administration views the deep state bureaucracy as an obstacle to effective governance.
By making these policy shifts, Trump aims to break down that barrier, holding government workers accountable for their role in shaping laws and policies that affect every American.
The proposed changes have not been without controversy.
Demonstrations have been held in protest of Trump’s decision, with critics arguing that this move could undermine workers’ rights and lead to politically motivated firings.
However, Trump’s camp insists that these reforms are necessary to ensure the government works in the best interests of the American people.
In the broader context, Trump’s strategy is to assert greater control over the federal government, making it more efficient and responsive to the president’s goals.
By focusing on accountability and efficiency, Trump hopes to reshape Washington into a more business-like operation, where the needs of the American people come first.
With the new rule in place, the president appears poised to challenge the entrenched bureaucratic system that has often hindered his administration’s progress.
The move is a bold step in his ongoing effort to drain the swamp and restore accountability to Washington.
