Elon Musk’s Bizarre Table Etiquette Goes Viral as X Detects the Same Thing
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has become the subject of widespread ridicule after footage emerged showing him balancing silverware during an exclusive dinner with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
The video, which has gone viral across social media platforms, shows 53-year-old Musk completely absorbed in his utensil-balancing act while seated next to Trump at the Florida estate on March 15.
While the President engaged with other guests at the lavish gathering, Musk appeared captivated by his impromptu silverware trick.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt can be seen in the footage watching as Musk demonstrates his balancing skills.

Seated alongside him was Shivon Zilis, director of his Neuralink company and mother to four of his children, who appeared unimpressed by Musk’s behavior as Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” played in the background.
“Elon, what the heck are you doing?” the videographer can be heard asking in the background.
Additional footage from the same event shows Trump seated to Musk’s right while the tech mogul continues his silverware balancing demonstration, seemingly oblivious to the formal nature of the gathering.
Musk later confirmed the incident on his social media platform X, writing: “A fork and two spoons balanced on the tip of my finger.”

The post sparked immediate reactions, with one user replying, “I also did that kind of thing when I was 5.”
Social media users have been unforgiving in their assessment of Musk’s behavior. “I bet this hits so hard if you’re seven,” wrote one commenter.
The Daily Mail reported that others described the billionaire as “weird,” with another suggesting, “He’s hoping someone will pay attention to him. ‘Hey! That looks neat! Man, you’re so cool!’ It’s so painfully transparent.”

“Me at 6 years old,” another user joked, comparing Musk’s dinner table antics to childish behavior. The comments section quickly filled with similar observations about the contrast between Musk’s position of power and his seemingly juvenile conduct at such a high-profile event.
Seats at this exclusive Mar-a-Lago dinner commanded contributions of approximately $1 million per guest, according to reports making the casual silverware balancing display all the more conspicuous among the formal gathering of wealthy donors and political figures.
The incident comes amid ongoing discussions about Musk’s behavior since joining Trump’s administration as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
This silverware incident occurs as President Trump recently clarified that potential conflicts of interest prevent him from showing Musk the Pentagon’s plans for a hypothetical conflict with China. The Daily Mail reported that during a press conference with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump disputed claims that Musk would be given access to classified military planning documents.
“Certainly, you wouldn’t show it to a businessman who is helping us so much, paying a big price for helping us cut costs… but Elon has businesses in China and he would be susceptible to that,” Trump stated, highlighting the complex relationship between Musk’s business interests and his government role.
The President explained that Musk’s Pentagon visit was focused on identifying potential “waste, fraud and abuse” within the department rather than reviewing sensitive military strategies.
“I don’t want to show it to anybody,” Trump added regarding the China contingency plans.
“You’re talking about a potential war with China. I deal with these people all the time. I don’t want anybody seeing potential war with China.”
Amazing visit with @elonmusk at the Pentagon today. He is a patriot, and I look forward to continuing our work together. With Elon and @DOGE we are ensuring our Military continues to be the greatest fighting force the world has ever known. pic.twitter.com/xkJam6Kmsq
