Diehard Lib Rosie O’Donnell Reveals Country She Relocated to After Trump Took Office: ‘It’s Been Pretty Wonderful’
Comedian and actress Rosie O’Donnell has relocated to Ireland, citing her inability to remain in the United States under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The 62-year-old liberal entertainer, who has long been critical of the conservative president, announced her departure in a nine-minute video update to her 2.5 million followers.
O’Donnell revealed that she moved on Jan. 15, just days before Trump’s inauguration, calling the decision necessary for herself and her 12-year-old child.
“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming. And I’m very grateful,” she stated in the video.
Despite having settled in Dublin for approximately two months, O’Donnell admitted to missing aspects of American life.
“You know, I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids. I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country,” she explained.
The former host of “The View” indicated that her return to the United States would depend on political changes, saying, “And when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back.”
O’Donnell described watching recent political developments in America as “heartbreaking” and “hard for me personally,” adding that “the personal is political, as we all know.” Despite these difficulties, she expressed satisfaction with her new environment, noting that Dublin residents have been friendly and welcoming.
Daily Mail reported that the entertainer first hinted at her international move on March 7 when she shared a selfie from behind the wheel of a car, commenting on the challenges of driving on the opposite side of the road.
“Bought a little used car to tool around the countryside on the wrong side of the road,” she wrote on Instagram, adding, “Hit the curb three times – thought I hit a cat!!! #newadventures.”
O’Donnell’s 12-year-old daughter Dakota has joined her in Ireland, while her four older children have remained in the United States.
The mother of five has been notably outspoken against Trump throughout his political career, intensifying her criticism during and after his first presidential term.
Daily Mail highlighted that O’Donnell recently shared a video of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky interacting with children, captioning it with critical remarks about Trump. In December, she also publicly condemned Time magazine for naming Trump its “Man of the Year” for 2024, using expletives to express her displeasure with the publication’s choice.
“Man of the year, Donald Trump. Well, fk you Time Magazine. Fk you, seriously,” O’Donnell said in her TikTok response. “How about most dangerous man of the year? How about most criminal man of the year? How about the worst president we’ve ever had… of the year.”
O’Donnell joins a growing list of celebrities who have relocated following Trump’s reelection to a second term, according to Daily Mail.
Actor Richard Gere, 75, sold his $11 million Connecticut property in November before moving to Madrid, Spain. While Gere cited proximity to his wife’s family as one factor in the decision, he also framed the move as a “great adventure,” telling Vanity Fair, “I have never lived full-time outside of the United States.”
TTOA previously reported that former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, chose to leave America for the English countryside in December.
DeGeneres referenced their relocation in a social media post celebrating their 20th anniversary, writing that she was “so happy we get to travel and explore the world together” alongside a selfie taken in the United Kingdom.

I feel sorry for the Irish people. But I’m thrilled we don’t have her here in God’s Country anymore.
