DOGE Staffers Suddenly Turn on Elon, Scathing Letter Reveals

In a dramatic development for the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), 21 former staffers have resigned in protest against what they describe as attempts to “dismantle critical public services.”

The collective resignation represents approximately one-third of the holdover employees from the U.S. Digital Service (USDS), the small government department of roughly 100 workers that Elon Musk transformed into DOGE under President Donald Trump’s administration.

The former employees made their objections clear in a letter, stating, “We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations.”

These ex-workers, who were not part of what they characterized as Musk’s “personally hired nerd army,” declared their refusal to participate in cutting essential government services that millions of Americans depend on daily.

Since Musk’s takeover, DOGE has already terminated 40 workers from the original USDS team.

According to the resignation letter, many of those who quit were involved in modernizing critical government systems including Social Security, veterans’ services, tax filing, healthcare, disaster relief and student aid programs.

“The sudden loss of their technology expertise makes critical systems and American’s data less safe,” the letter warned, highlighting concerns about the security implications of the departures.

The resigning employees emphasized that their technological skills would not be used to “compromise core government systems” or “jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data,” the Daily Mail outlined.

The resignations come amid growing tensions within the federal workforce.

In recent weeks, TTOA has reported that DOGE representatives have conducted aggressive reviews across federal agencies, demanding access to sensitive data and conducting performance evaluations of agency personnel.

The resigning staffers claimed in their letter that these interviews created “significant security risks” and that some interviewers “refused to identify themselves, asked questions about political loyalty, attempted to pit colleagues against each other, and demonstrated limited technical ability.”

DOGE Spokeswoman Katie Miller countered these claims on social media platform X, characterizing the departed employees as “full remote workers who hung Trans flags from their workplaces.”

Miller suggested that many were former big tech workers who were disappointed with DOGE’s federal review process, which the department claims has already saved approximately $65 billion in taxpayer dollars through cutting contracts for foreign aid, DEI education and recently hired federal employees.

The clash represents a fundamental difference in vision for government technology services.

The departing workers see themselves as defenders of essential digital infrastructure that citizens rely on, while DOGE leadership portrays their efforts as necessary cost-cutting measures to eliminate waste and inefficiency in federal spending.

Adding to the controversy, TTOA has highlighted that DOGE recently sent an email to federal workers from a sender titled “HR”–actually from the Office of Personnel Management–asking “what did you do last week.”

The vague nature of this communication prompted leaders at several agencies, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Pentagon officials under Pete Hegseth, to instruct their staff to disregard the request, creating confusion across departments.

Musk responded forcefully on X by warning that employees who ignore the next such email would face termination, stating, “Subject to the discretion of the President, they will be given another chance. Failure to respond a second time will result in termination.”

The mass resignation takes place as DOGE continues its sweeping review of federal agencies and expenditures.

The department has been conducting what some describe as a rampage through government offices, with representatives demanding detailed performance information and access to sensitive systems, while critics question their technical qualifications and methods.

The resigning DOGE staffers concluded their letter with a firm stance: “We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services.”

“We will not lend our expertise to carry out or legitimize DOGE’s actions.”
