CNN Darling Issues Baffling Clarification After Posting Then Quickly Deleting Controversial Tweet

CNN Darling Kaitlan Collins Breaks Silence With Clarification That MAGA Simply Won’t Buy After Posting Then Quickly Deleting Controversial Tweet: ‘Not True’

A controversy erupted when CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins posted a link to the defense website of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a shocking New York City attack that has highlighted tensions over American healthcare access.

Collins, CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent, faced immediate backlash after sharing a link to a website created by Mangione’s legal team at Agnifilo Intrater.

The website includes personal messages from Mangione and directs visitors to an external fundraising page, though the site itself doesn’t host fundraising activities.

The defense team’s digital presence has drawn attention to the complex narrative surrounding the high-profile case.

“Luigi Mangione’s legal defense team has launched a new website today,” Collins initially posted on X before deleting the message amid growing criticism.

The 26-year-old Mangione stands accused of fatally shooting Thompson outside the New York Hilton Midtown on Dec. 4, in what prosecutors describe as a meticulously planned attack.

Media figures and social media users quickly condemned Collins’ actions.

The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller called it “Real bottom of the barrel stuff,” while WMAL host Larry O’Connor criticized Collins for using her considerable platform to promote a link for the defense fund of a “cold blooded murderer.”

The backlash highlighted ongoing debates about journalistic responsibility in covering controversial cases.

Collins defended herself in response to media coverage, stating, “This is not true. I posted that his attorneys created a website, which is newsworthy and other outlets have also reported on. In no way did I share a fundraising link for him.”

CNN backed their anchor, with a spokesperson telling Mediaite the post was “nothing more than a social post reporting news surrounding the trial.”

Mangione’s supporters have raised over $400,000 for his legal defense, with Daily Mail reporting that some view him as a crusader against the American healthcare system.

Investigators found shell casings at the crime scene inscribed with “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” – apparent references to insurance industry practices that have drawn criticism from healthcare reform advocates, TTOA previously reported.

Daily Mail noted that the Dec. 4 Legal Committee, which supports Mangione’s defense, stated, “The American private health insurance industry has ruined countless lives by denying people access to basic care and burying families in medical debt.”

They added that Mangione’s “alleged actions are understood and supported by tens of millions of hard-working Americans.”

Mangione was arrested carrying what authorities believe was a 3D-printed “ghost gun” and a notebook containing anti-insurance industry sentiments, per Daily Mail.

The outlet further noted that prosecutors say surveillance footage shows a hooded figure shooting Thompson in the leg and back. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has applied terrorism charges, citing the “frightening, well-planned, targeted murder that was intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation.”

The accused killer is currently detained in a Brooklyn federal facility, sharing space with other high-profile defendants including Sean “Diddy” Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried.
