McNeal Comments On Video Of Taylor Swift At Super Bowl
Oh no, Taylor Swift got booed at the Super Bowl. Quick, someone call the United Nations, this is clearly a human rights violation. Or at least, that’s the level of hysteria coming from Glamour magazine, which is now convinced that a few thousand Eagles fans doing what Eagles fans always do is proof that America has been taken over by Trump-loving, beer-chugging, toxic masculinity enthusiasts.
Let’s take a deep breath here and think about this rationally—assuming that’s still allowed. Swift, who grew up in Pennsylvania as an Eagles fan, was at the game supporting her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays for the other team. The Kansas City Chiefs are already one of the most hated teams in the league (probably because they keep winning, and fans are tired of watching referees hand them calls). Philly fans, still bitter over how Super Bowl 57 ended, saw Swift up on the Jumbotron and did what they always do when they see someone they don’t like. They booed. Not exactly breaking news.
But to Glamour, this wasn’t just sports. Oh no, this was a chilling moment—one that marked a new low in American misogyny. Yes, apparently, football fans booing someone is now a gender-based hate crime. This is the level of absurdity we’re dealing with. The writer, who breathlessly recounted watching Swift’s expression turn from confusion to discomfort, seemed convinced that this was some kind of deliberate political statement. Never mind the fact that Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, and Anne Hathaway were also shown on screen and didn’t get the same reaction—maybe, just maybe, people don’t care that much about those celebrities.
And, of course, Trump had to be dragged into this. The author wasted no time blaming him for everything because what doesn’t get blamed on Trump at this point? According to Glamour, the Super Bowl has been “reclaimed” by Trump and his toxic masculinity brigade, as if it were ever some bastion of progressive activism to begin with. This is football. This is the NFL. It is, and always has been, one of the few places in America where people actually don’t care about politics—until people like this start screeching about how a normal crowd reaction is proof of a right-wing conspiracy.
Trump, of course, had some fun with it, pointing out that the only person who had a rougher night than the Chiefs was Swift herself. And naturally, this was framed as him “weaponizing” his followers against her because pointing out obvious reality is now considered an attack. The fact that Swift has openly endorsed Democrats and was practically a campaign surrogate for Kamala Harris doesn’t seem to matter to these people—she should apparently be shielded from all criticism, even from a rowdy sports crowd that would boo its own team if they played badly.
This is exactly why leftists should just stay away from sports if they’re going to react like this. Football isn’t some cozy Brooklyn coffee shop where everyone whispers about the patriarchy over oat milk lattes. It’s loud, aggressive, and full of people who don’t particularly care about your feelings. If the sight of Taylor Swift getting heckled by sports fans sends you into an existential crisis, then maybe—just maybe—this isn’t the space for you.
Swift is a billionaire. She’s going to be just fine. She survived a few boos. She still got to enjoy the game from a VIP suite, then hop on a private jet to god-knows-where while her fans sobbed over this so-called injustice. And yet, somehow, we’re supposed to believe that this—not inflation, not crime, not the border crisis—is what’s truly chilling.
Give me a break.
