Real Reason Longtime Fox News Anchor Neil Cavuto Left Network Revealed?
Longtime Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto has departed the network after 28 years, however, new details have emerged about the circumstances behind his exit.
The departure marks the end of an era for the veteran business journalist who had been with the network since its inception in 1996, TTOA reported on Friday.
Cavuto made his final appearance on “Your World” last Thursday, bidding farewell to viewers who had followed his coverage of financial markets and political developments for nearly three decades.
While initial reports from Mediaite suggested his exit was unrelated to his stance on President Donald Trump, recent revelations paint a more complex picture.
Former CNN employee Oliver Darcy, writing on his website Status, reports that Cavuto’s departure was driven by broader changes in conservative media landscape.
Darcy claims that Cavuto’s show had become a “wormhole to another time” that predated Trump’s transformation of the Republican Party into what Darcy describes as an “America-First image.”
“Donald Trump not only remade the Republican Party in his own image, but he also remade the right-wing media landscape in it too. Fox News’ 2024 lineup is a reflection of that,” Darcy wrote.
Financial considerations also reportedly played a role in Cavuto’s exit.
Despite Fox News maintaining its position as the highest-rated cable news network, sources indicate Cavuto faced the prospect of a reduced salary to maintain his position – a particularly difficult pill to swallow for someone who had dedicated his career to building the network’s success.
Fox News issued a statement praising Cavuto’s contributions: “Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media.”
“His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best on his next chapter.”
President-elect Trump celebrated the news on his Truth Social platform, writing: “GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA! Neil Cavuto, the Lowest Rated Anchor on Fox, by far, is leaving. Should have happened a long time ago!”
The departure of Cavuto represents the latest in a series of significant personnel changes at Fox News, reflecting the evolving dynamics of conservative media in the post-Trump era.
TTOA reported last week that “Cavuto Coast to Coast” will be rebranded as “Fox Business Live” during this transition period.
The timing of the announcement coincided with Cavuto’s final broadcast Thursday afternoon.
Cavuto addressed his viewers directly about his decision to leave the network that has been his professional home for nearly 30 years.
“This is it,” Cavuto began. “The final segment, but today I also wanted to let you know this is my final show. I’m leaving Fox. I’ve been planning this day for some time. This just seemed like a good time.”
Cavuto emphasized that he’s “not leaving journalism,” however, just that he’s ending his career at Fox.
“I’m forever grateful to my bosses here. They have been very good to me these many years and offered a very generous opportunity for me to stay years more,” he said.
“That’s pretty amazing considering the fact that— I don’t know—I might have missed a day or two go here and there…”
He concluded: “… I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season.”
“May the new year be as fulfilling for you as these nearly 30 incredible years you blessed me. It means a lot, you do too, thank you and good night.”
