First Dem City on Border Czar Tom Homan’s List for Mass Deportations Revealed
In a bold declaration at the Northwest Side GOP holiday party, President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan announced plans for a massive deportation effort targeting Chicago, setting the stage for a potential confrontation with local leadership.
Homan, 63, the former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement during Trump’s first term, delivered sharp criticism of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
He called them “terrible” and urged them to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The incoming border czar outlined a comprehensive deportation strategy that will prioritize migrants with criminal records.
He warned that the operation will be highly targeted and methodical, contrary to claims of indiscriminate sweep.
“Chicago is in trouble because your mayor sucks and your governor sucks,” Homan told party attendees, directly challenging local officials’ sanctuary city stance.
He made it clear that he will not tolerate obstruction, stating bluntly to Mayor Johnson, “If he doesn’t want to help, get the hell out of the way.”
“If he knowingly harbors or conceals an illegal alien – I will prosecute him.”
Homan’s deportation plan will initially focus on migrants who have committed crimes in the United States, Daily Mail reported.
The scope will then expand to include legal migrants, asylum seekers and individuals who entered the US through humanitarian parole under the Biden Administration.
The border czar emphasized that while family separation is not a current administrative goal, it remains a potential consequence.
“My goal is to enforce the law,” Homan stated, warning that parents of Dreamers will face stark choices: either take their children with them or leave them behind.
“You don’t get a pass,” Homan warned.
“… There’s no more consequences,” he added. “We have to remove them if the law requires.”
Chicago has been a focal point of migration issues, with over 50,000 migrants arriving since August 2022.
Mayor Johnson has consistently defended the city’s sanctuary status, declaring, “Our values will remain strong and firm.”
Governor Pritzker’s initial defiant response has softened somewhat.
Daily Mail reported that his spokesman, Alex Gough, indicated a strategy of focusing on competent state leadership rather than engaging in direct confrontations with Trump administration officials.
Democratic US Representative Delia Ramirez has taken a more confrontational stance, warning Homan to “be ready to meet the resistance” when he visits her district, which she describes as being “made stronger and more powerful by immigrants.”
Homan vehemently denied accusations of racism, asserting that the deportation efforts are based on detailed investigative case files and will be a “very targeted operation.”
The announcement sets the stage for a potential legal and political battle, with Governor Pritzker already discussing potential legal challenges with the Illinois Attorney General’s office.
