Outrage Erupts After Greta Thunberg Filmed Bursting Into Laughter as She Declares ‘F*** Israel’ at Rally
Climate activist Greta Thunberg ignited a firestorm of controversy during an anti-Israel rally in Mannheim, Germany, where she was captured on video making inflammatory remarks against both Germany and Israel while laughing.
The 21-year-old environmentalist, who rose to global prominence for her climate activism, appeared as a featured speaker at a demonstration focused on “solidarity with Palestine and the climate movement.”
The New York Post reported that video footage from the event shows Thunberg using profanity directed at both Germany and Israel, followed by her audible laughter.
Her comments drew enthusiastic applause and whistles from the approximately 700 protesters in attendance, per German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
The Post highlighted that the incident has drawn sharp criticism from political leaders and advocacy groups.
The Jerusalem Post reported that Manuel Hagel, a conservative leader in the regional parliament, condemned Thunberg’s remarks, stating, “Mannheim does not need a platform for such dehumanizing positions and our country does not need the presence of people like Greta Thunberg.”
StopAntisemitism, a prominent advocacy organization, quickly denounced Thunberg’s behavior on social media.
The group highlighted Israel’s contributions to environmental innovation, with their post garnering over 70,000 views on X by early Monday afternoon.
“Someone should remind Greta that Israel is a global leader in solving climate challenges,” the statement read.
This latest controversy adds to a growing list of incidents involving Thunberg and accusations of antisemitism, the Post noted.
Thunberg was arrested in September while protesting with Students Against the Occupation at Copenhagen University, where demonstrators demanded the severance of all ties with Israel, including student exchange programs.
Following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, Thunberg posted a photo of herself holding a “Stand with Gaza” sign, accompanied by a toy octopus.
The image sparked backlash due to historical associations between octopus imagery and Nazi antisemitic propaganda.
The Post had reported that Thunberg, who is on the autism spectrum, later removed the photo and explained that she was “completely unaware” of these historical connotations.
She stated the toy was meant as a communication tool commonly used by autistic individuals to express emotions.
Thunberg called for an “immediate ceasefire” in October, too.
Fox News noted that Israel’s X account, managed by the Middle Eastern country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, fired back just over an hour after Thunberg’s call to action.
“[Thunberg], Hamas doesn’t use sustainable materials for their rockets which have BUTCHERED innocent Israelis,” the response read.
“The victims of the Hamas massacre could have been your friends. Speak up,” Israel posted.
The Mannheim rally, while described as peaceful by city officials speaking to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, has intensified scrutiny of Thunberg’s pivot from climate activism to controversial political stances on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
