State Election Judge Faces Felony Voter Charges

Minnesota Election Judge Charged with Felony for Alleged Illegal Voter Practices

Timothy Michael Scouton, an election judge in Hubbard County, Minnesota, has been charged with felony offenses for allegedly permitting unregistered voters to participate in the upcoming 2024 election. Scouton faces one count of accepting votes from individuals who were not registered and another count for neglecting his duties as an election official.

Reports indicate that Scouton instructed voters to sign their names on the back of a book instead of completing the necessary registration forms to verify their identities, according to Fox News. This irregularity was brought to light by a local election auditor who noted that 11 voters had not followed the proper registration process.

Although Scouton completed his training as an election judge earlier in the year, he reportedly failed to adhere to established election procedures. Other judges who worked with Scouton confirmed that he directed them not to use the official voter registration forms, further complicating the situation.

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office has taken action, arresting Scouton, who has opted not to make a public statement concerning the charges against him. Minnesota Secretary of State’s office responded to the allegations by labeling them “extremely serious.” They underscored the critical importance of compliance with election laws by officials tasked with overseeing the voting process.

“These allegations are extremely serious and must be fully and thoroughly investigated,” the Secretary of State’s office told Fox 9. “Election judges take an oath to administer elections in accordance with the law, a deliberate failure to do so is unlawful and a betrayal of the public trust. Minnesota’s elections rely on the dedication and public service of 30,000 people and they are required to conduct their work fairly, impartially, and within the letter of the law. The Hubbard County Auditor took prompt and correct action in notifying local authorities of the uncovered discrepancies so they could investigate.”
