Teen Girl Discovered Dead Inside Oven in Walmart

An investigation is underway after a teenager was found dead inside of an oven at Walmart.

The “charred remains” of Gursimran Kaur, 19, were found inside one of the retail giant’s large walk-in bakery ovens in Halifax, Canada, on Saturday night.

She was discovered by her mother, according to family members, per the New York Post. The two had worked together at Walmart for the past two years.

The mother grew concerned about Kaur when she failed to check in with her for over an hour.

Kaur did not answer her phone, which made her mother become more worried, even though co-workers said that she might be assisting customers.

After another employee noticed a ‘leakage’ coming from the oven door hours later, the mother opened it, only to be met with a ghastly scene.

“Imagine the horror that her mother experienced who herself opened the oven,” wrote a family spokesperson on the GoFundMe page set up for Kaur.

Due to the tragic incident, Walmart has remained closed as authorities conduct an investigation. Amanda Moss, a representative of the company, released a statement.

“We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family. We extend our sincerest condolences to those who were closest to them,” she said, according to CTV News.

“We’re also supporting our associates during this incredibly difficult time and have provided access to 24/7 virtual care and will provide on-site support, including grief counseling,” she added.

Despite Walmart’s closure, employees will still receive their regular pay.

“The investigation is ongoing. We’re still working with Occupational Health and Safety and the Medical Examiner’s Office. We’re allowing them to do their part so there’s no updates at this time,” Constable Martin Cromwell of the Halifax Regional Police told the outlet Thursday morning.

The Canadian Department of Labor, Skills and Immigration is also investigating the incident, according to The Western Journal.

It has been indicated that Kaur could not have locked herself inside the oven, as the ovens at this location do not have locking mechanisms, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Kaur and her mother were only in the country for a few years, according to the GoFundMe page. Her father and brother are currently in India, trying to make their way to Canada.
