Obama Raps With Eminem on Stage at Detroit Rally as Tulsi Gabbard Announces She is Officially Joining Republican Party
President Barack Obama and Donald Trump traded fierce barbs across different campaign stops, with Obama delivering an unexpected rap performance and Trump launching personal attacks against his predecessor in a day that reshaped the political landscape.
At a high-energy Detroit rally, Obama surprised supporters by reciting lyrics from Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” after being introduced by the legendary rapper himself.
The former president, admitting to feeling “nervous,” delivered the iconic lines, “palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy,” to thunderous applause from the Michigan crowd.
The unexpected performance came after Obama playfully acknowledged the pressure of following the Real Slim Shady on stage.
Trump, speaking at a North Carolina campaign event, branded Obama “a real jerk” and criticized his recent campaign appearances.
“What a divider he is. He divides this country. He couldn’t care less, him and his little group of people,” Trump declared.
Trump went further, suggesting Obama appeared “exhausted” and questioned his enthusiasm for campaigning, stating, “The reason they’re bringing him out — because he doesn’t even want to do it. I think he’s exhausted. I watched him talk and I think the guy’s exhausted.”
The political crossfire intensified as Obama mocked Trump’s merchandise ventures, particularly focusing on his golden sneakers and luxury watches.
“He’s trying to sell you a $100,000 watch. Says it’s made in Switzerland, but nobody really knows,” Obama quipped.
The former president continued his criticism, taking aim at Trump’s “Trump Bible” and questioning his stance on China, suggesting the Republican presidential hopeful’s principles wavered “when he can make a few bucks.”
In a significant political development that added fuel to the already blazing political fire, former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard announced her formal transition to the Republican Party at Trump’s Greensboro rally.
Gabbard, who previously served as a Democratic National Committee vice chair, praised Trump’s leadership in transforming the Republican Party into “the party of the people and the party of peace.”
Meanwhile, Obama’s Detroit appearance featured pointed criticism of Trump’s campaign style and recent public appearances.
“He’ll give like two and a half hour speeches. Just a word salad,” Obama remarked, referencing a recent town hall where Trump reportedly abandoned questions in favor of playing music.
Obama particularly focused on an incident where Trump’s microphone failed for more than 15 minutes, during which “Eye of the Tiger” played over the PA system.
Eminem, maintaining a subdued presence in a khaki ballcap and jacket, encouraged voter participation while taking subtle jabs at Trump.
“I don’t think anyone wants an America where people are worried about retribution of what people will do if you make your opinion known,” the rapper stated, alluding to Trump’s previous promises of “retribution.”
The 8 Mile star emphasized the importance of voting and expressed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The rally showdown included Obama’s commentary on Trump’s recent public appearances, with the former president mocking Trump’s tendency to dance to music during campaign events.
“He’s just up there swaying to Ave Maria and YMCA,” Obama said, drawing laughter from the crowd.
Gabbard’s surprise announcement at the North Carolina rally marked a significant shift in political allegiances, however.
“I’m proud to stand here with you today, President Trump, and announce that I’m joining the Republican Party. I am joining the party of the people,” declared Gabbard, who previously served Hawaii’s Second District in Congress as a Democrat from 2013 through 2021.
Trump welcomed her announcement with enthusiasm, noting, “That was really, she’s been independent for a long time. That’s a great thing. A great honor.”
