Elon Musk Drops Harrowing Three Words About Daniel Penny

Tech mogul and X CEO Elon Musk gave his two cents on why some young men seemingly refuse to intervene when helpless people face stressful situations, namely the case of men allegedly harassing women on a subway.

Musk’s reaction came to an X post that read: “this man on the subway was repeatedly harrasing a woman, being disgusting, invading her space, etc.”

It continued, “tell me fucking why me and the other women around tried to intervene and tell him off but all the young, fit guys around just stood silent and looked at the ground.”

Musk simply responded, “This is why.” The answer came in a quoted X post that displayed Daniel Penny, who was infamously arrested and charged with manslaughter and criminal homicide after he restrained Jordan Neely, a homeless man who allegedly threatened numerous passengers on a New York City subway.

Neely died after the altercation took place.

Neely notably had dozens of prior arrests, with past charges including theft and assaults on three women.

Following that fateful day, some claimed Penny was charged because he is White and would often compare it with other cases of alleged self-defense in New York City.

Penny, a 25-year-old former Marine, has just begun his trial and has pleaded not guilty to charges of negligent homicide and second-degree manslaughter.

Neely, who was a 30-year-old black man, allegedly shouted at, threatened, and harassed passengers on the subway before Penny swung into action.

Penny is currently free on bail but could be locked in prison for 15 years if he’s convicted on the manslaughter charge. He maintains that he acted in self-defense, according to the BBC.

Prosecutors claim that Penny stuck Neely in a chokehold “that lasted approximately six minutes and continued well past the point at which Mr Neely had stopped purposeful movement.”

Penny wrote on social media that killing Neely was not his goal, and that “I was scared for myself but I looked around there were women and children, he was yelling in their faces saying these threats. I just couldn’t sit still.”

Witnesses have stated that Neely was yelling about being hungry as well as being willing to go to jail or even die.
