Liberal Leader Accepts Pivotal Phone Call From Elon Musk Despite Stark Differences in Politics
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro received an unexpected phone call from tech mogul Elon Musk during a Pittsburgh Steelers game, igniting speculation about potential job creation and economic opportunities in the Keystone State.
The call, facilitated by billionaire Thomas Tull, has set tongues wagging about the possibility of major investments in Pennsylvania’s future.
Shapiro reportedly wasted no time in engaging with Musk.
“Thomas and Elon were at the Steelers game together and called me about some ideas that Elon Musk has in investing in Pennsylvania, creating jobs and economic opportunity, and I was pleased to hear about it,” Shapiro stated, according to NBC.
This development stands in stark contrast to the reception Musk has received from some other state officials across the country, Daily Caller outlined.
In California, the state’s Coastal Commission recently rejected a U.S. Air Force plan that would have allowed Musk’s SpaceX to launch rockets from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.
The decision, which passed with a 6-4 vote, raised eyebrows when Commissioner Gretchen Newsom cited Musk’s social media activity as a factor in her opposition.
“Elon Musk is hopping about the country, spewing and tweeting political falsehoods and attacking FEMA while claiming his desire to help the hurricane victims with free Starlink access to the internet,” Newsom remarked, according to Politico.
Despite the political divide between Shapiro, a Democrat who was once considered for Kamala Harris’ running mate, and Musk, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, the two managed to find common ground.
Shapiro emphasized that their conversation steered clear of partisan issues, focusing instead on the potential for economic growth.
“We obviously didn’t talk about politics,” Shapiro noted.
“We focused on what I try and do every single day, which is bringing jobs and economic opportunity and growth to Pennsylvania.”
The timing of this interaction is particularly intriguing, given the current political climate in Pennsylvania.
Both Shapiro and Musk have been actively campaigning in the state, widely regarded as a crucial battleground in the upcoming election.
Musk recently appeared alongside Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he declared the upcoming election “the most important election of our lifetime.”
Meanwhile, Shapiro has been rallying support for the Democratic ticket, appearing with former President Barack Obama at a high-profile campaign event for Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh last Thursday.
While details of the potential investments remain undisclosed, the mere possibility of Musk bringing his innovative prowess to Pennsylvania has sparked excitement among business leaders and residents alike.
As the story continues to unfold, all eyes will be on Shapiro and Musk to see if this unexpected connection will translate into tangible benefits for the people of Pennsylvania.
This development could have far-reaching implications for Pennsylvania’s economy and its role in shaping the national political landscape.
