Ex-Fox News Host Condemns Trump, Renounces MAGA Beliefs in Scathing X Post
Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera has publicly denounced Donald Trump and abandoned his previous support for the MAGA movement.
Rivera, a veteran journalist who worked at Fox from 2001 to 2023, took to X to share a scathing critique of the former president.
“Former President Trump is a sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution,” Rivera declared in his post.
The 81-year-old commentator went on to announce his intention to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, marking a dramatic shift from his previous political stance.
Rivera recalled a phone conversation with Trump in November 2020, just days after Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
Rivera claimed that Trump had assured him that he would accept the election results if necessary.
However, the journalist expressed deep disappointment in Trump’s subsequent actions.
“Instead, President Trump embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election,” Rivera wrote.
He accused Trump of coercing millions of supporters into believing the false narrative of a stolen election.
The former talk show host didn’t mince words when addressing fellow Republicans.
“If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you,” he stated bluntly; a claim that was also recently parroted by billionaire Mark Cuban.
Rivera went on to criticize Trump’s role in the events of January 6, 2021, accusing him of inciting violence at the Capitol.
“As his followers trashed that sacred space, he was on the phone urging Vice President Mike Pence essentially to overturn the will of the American people,” Rivera alleged.
He praised then-VP Mike Pence for refusing to prioritize Trump over the Constitution.
Rivera’s relationship with Trump has undergone a dramatic transformation.
He previously considered Trump a friend and even supported him to some extent during his presidency, as reported by Daily Mail.
However, the aftermath of the 2020 election marked a turning point in their relationship.
The journalist has become increasingly vocal in his criticism of Trump, particularly regarding the former president’s rhetoric on immigration.
Daily Mail highlighted that Rivera slammed Trump’s recent comment about migrants “poisoning the blood of our country” as “disgusting” and reminiscent of Nazi-era propaganda.
“It harkens back to the mid 19th century, when the Irish immigrants were accused of bringing all sorts of diseases from Europe to the United States,” Rivera explained in a video post.
He drew parallels between historical anti-immigrant sentiments and Trump’s current rhetoric.
Rivera’s stance serves as a reminder of the ongoing divisions within the Republican Party.
His decision to support Harris further underscores the extent of his disillusionment with Trump and the MAGA movement.
