Harris Sparks Backlash After Sharing Photo of Her Being ‘Briefed’ on Hurricane Helene
Vice President Kamala Harris is being criticized after sharing a photo on social media Sunday night showing her after a briefing from FEMA regarding the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
In the photo, Harris is seen writing aboard Air Force Two with a headphone in, appearing focused on her work. The only issue with that is that the paper that she is writing notes on is completely blank.
“I was just briefed by @FEMA_Deanne Criswell on the latest developments about the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene. We also discussed our Administration’s continued actions to support emergency response and recovery,” the post reads. “I also spoke with @NC_Governor Cooper about the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in North Carolina.”
“Our Administration will continue to stay in constant contact with state and local officials to ensure communities have the support and resources they need,” the post continues. “Doug and my thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones and those whose homes, businesses, and communities were damaged or destroyed during this disaster.”
Harris’ post comes after Hurricane Helene caused damage to North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Many towns around Asheville, North Carolina, were completely flooded as residents were left without power and clean drinking water, the Post Millennial reported.
More than 1,000 residents have been reported missing as the death toll is expected to increase.
It did not take long for social media to erupt, ripping Harris for the photo opt. Many X users wrote that everything about Harris is “fake.”
One user wrote, “Kamala Harris staring a blank piece of paper while her ear buds are not plugged in. Queen of Fake!”
Another user wrote, “Earphones aren’t plugged into the phone. Paper is completely blank. Has the Kamala Harris media team just given up.”
“While Donald Trump was loading up supplies of food and water to take to hurricane stricken Georgia, Kamala Harris was having an imaginary phone call while writing on a blank sheet of paper,” another X user wrote.
Harris’ latest backlash follows her traveling to the southern border in Arizona, where she met with Border Patrol. She was heavily criticized for the trip and accused of using it as a photo opt; many, including Border Patrol, speculated.
After her appearance at the border, she was slammed for wearing an expensive necklace, as TTOA previously reported over the weekend.
In contrast to Harris’ response to the devastation left by the storm, former President Donald Trump announced that he would be making a trip to access the damage in Georgia.
“We have a lot of truckloads of different items, from oil to water to all sorts of equipment that’s going to help them,” Trump said in Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday, according to NBC News.
He criticized Harris and President Joe Biden for not visiting the area, but said on Monday that it was not the time for politics.
“Our country is in the final weeks of a hard-fought national election, but in a time like this, when a crisis hits, when our fellow citizens cry out in need, none of that matters,” he said. “We’re not talking about politics now.”
“We have to all get together and get this out. We need a lot of help. They have to have a lot of help down here. We look out for one another, we pull together, we pitch in, we persevere and we pull it through. That is really the American spirit.”
