Breaking: Would-Be Trump Assassin’s Son Arrested for Child Pornography
The son of Ryan Wesley Routh, the man who is said to have attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, has been arrested for possessing child pornography.
Investigators found “hundreds” of files containing child pornography while searching Oran Alexander Routh’s home in Guilford County, North Carolina, on Saturday, according to ABC News.
The search was made “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation.”
Routh faces receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography charges.
The initial search was in relation to Routh’s father, who remains in custody. Upon their investigation, authorities found two Samsung Galaxy Note devices in Routh’s possession that contained graphic images and videos of children.
“A review of the SD card located in Device-1 revealed that it contained hundreds of child pornography files,” the criminal complaint states. “These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina.”
The prosecutors included graphic descriptions of the videos in the complaint. They also detailed a chat that Routh reportedly participated in from July, where he responded to an advertisement selling the content. The app used to communicate with the seller is “commonly used by individuals who distribute and receive child pornography,” the complaint stated, according to NBC News.
The Hill reports that the children in the videos were between six and eight years old and 12 to 14 years old.
Routh will make an appearance in court Tuesday afternoon. The prosecution is expected to see that he remains detained.
He currently does not have an attorney listed.
His father, Ryan, is charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number after he was found by the Secret Service at Trump International Golf Club on Sept. 15.
