Top Senate Dem ‘Angry’ at Biden-Harris Admin Amid Trump Assassination Probe

Sen. Blumenthal Slams Biden-Harris Administration for Withholding Info on Trump Assassination Attempts

A top Democratic senator has criticized the Biden-Harris administration for “stonewalling” and not providing requested information regarding the assassination attempts on former President Trump and the possible shortcomings of the Secret Service.

Democratic Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal criticized the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for resisting requests for documents and information. He stated that DHS was “almost derelict in its duty” because it did not provide the necessary materials for an investigation.

Fox News reports that Blumenthal is also the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI) chairman.

He shared his dissatisfaction with the department and said that he was “angry” that they had not been more open about disclosing information.

“We may need to require more cooperation from them,” he told reporters on Monday. “And we have the power to do so through the compulsory process. In other words, the subpoena power.”

PSI ranking member Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson (R) agreed with Blumenthal, stating, “They’re holding all their cards close to the vest.”

He also said that their refusal to share information is “driving suspicion and driving conspiracy theories.”

Speaking about Chairman Gary Peters of the PSI and HSGAC, his Democratic counterpart from Michigan, Johnson said, “I hope they’re getting frustrated.”

“I wrote a letter that it took us a couple weeks for all four offices to sign onto,” he said. “That’s the one that upset them because we sent it to Secret Service and DHS. We got a response in four hours, and the response was pretty disrespectful,.”

“And I think that fired up Chairman Peters and Chairman Blumenthal… I think that’s the reaction you heard last week. They’re not happy with the way they’re treating them.”

A spokesperson for the DHS stated that the agency is dedicated to cooperating fully with investigations into the July 13th incident, aiming to understand how it occurred and to prevent similar events in the future.

“Since July 13, the Department and the U.S. Secret Service have provided the Senate with multiple briefings, nearly 2,500 pages of documents, and more than 50 hours of transcribed interviews,” the DHS said. “It has done so while also cooperating with investigations by the House Special Task Force, the Independent Review Panel directed by the President, the DHS OIG, and the Government Accountability Office.”

“Claims that the Department and Secret Service are not cooperating are false and fail to recognize the robust response and ongoing work to meet Congress’ oversight requests, and our clear commitment to accountability for the events of July 13th.”

The Secret Service responded immediately after seeing an unknown man with a weapon at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday. They apprehended 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, who attempted to carry out an assassination attempt on the former president.
