Elon Musk Deletes X Post After Social Media Erupts Over His Take on Trump’s Second Assassination Attempt
Elon Musk, like many others, took to X to express his reaction following a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. However, his post sparked a wave of backlash from critics, especially left leaning, forcing him to delete it amidst the controversy.
In an X post on Sunday, Musk wrote, “No one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala” accompanied by a thinking emoji. His comment was made as a response to a post made by X user DogeDesigner, who wrote, “Why they want to kill Donald Trump.”
His response caused a social media meltdown, with liberals on the platform slammed the billionaire, assuming that he was trying to incite violence.
“A reminder that @elonmusk is a contractor for DOD and the US Govt and has said things that would have gotten anyone kicked out of the military. He needs to stop, or the govt needs to treat him equally to everyone else. Being rich doesn’t put you above the law,” wrote former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger.
Other users claimed that Musk is “dangerous” and needs to be deported.
“Elon Musk didn’t quickly delete his tweet enticing someone to try and murder Kamala Harris/Joe Biden. He waited until 40million people – the entire population of Canada – saw his tweet. He knows exactly what he is doing and has proven once again how dangerous he is,” one user wrote.
Another user wrote, “Who else here feels that Elon Musk should be stripped of his security clearance, and U.S. citizenship and then deported back to his home nation of South Africa?”
After taking down his post, Musk made two separate posts Monday morning about how his post was meant to be a joke and that his words were taken out of context.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” he wrote.
In another post made shortly after, he wrote, “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text.”
As many condemned Musk’s remark, many came to his defense.
“We knew what you meant, Elon. And so do they— except they will take it out of context and use it against you,” wrote LibracratTM.
“You did nothing wrong, Elon,” one user wrote.
“People are more upset you’ve said some words on X over 2 attempted assassination attempts. Why is outrage over words so much stronger lol,” another user wrote, adding, “He’s not inciting anything lmao. Anyone with a brain that’s not smooth can tell they were in humor, even if the jokes didn’t land.”
“The left have no sense of humour,” another user wrote.
Musk is no stranger when it comes to triggering the left with his rhetoric. He also found himself in hot water after writing that he would give Taylor Swift a child and protect her cats after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, as TTOA previously reported last week.
His comments were a result of Swift calling herself a “childless cat lady” and the cases reported of Haitian immigrants killing and eating pets. Musk has championed himself as an advocate for free speech, one of the reasons he acquired X, formerly Twitter, in 2022.
