Trump Reacts to Debate Performance, Suggests Only Reason Harris Would Want Rematch
In a post-debate interview on “Hannity,” President Donald Trump boldly declared his performance at the recent ABC News Presidential Debate as his “best debate ever.”
Trump’s confident assertion came despite what he described as a challenging “three against one” scenario, referring to the debate moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis alongside his opponent Vice President Kamala Harris.
The interview took an interesting turn when host Sean Hannity broached the subject of a potential second debate in October.
Trump’s response was characteristically blunt: “She wants it because she lost.”
He likened the situation to a prizefight, suggesting that only the loser would be eager for a rematch.
When pressed on whether he would agree to another debate, Trump remained noncommittal, stating, “Maybe if it was on a fair network, I would do that.”
Trump didn’t mince words when addressing the moderators’ approach, particularly highlighting moments when they fact-checked and pressed him on his answers.
The president’s comments suggest he felt unfairly targeted during the debate, a sentiment likely to resonate with his base.
One of the most contentious moments of the debate centered around the abortion issue.
Trump claimed some states allow abortion in the ninth month of pregnancy, citing a statement he attributed to a former governor of Virginia.
Moderator Linsey Davis, however, swiftly countered this assertion, stating unequivocally, “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.”
Trump didn’t hold back in criticizing his opponent’s debate performance, claiming she had merely “memorized lines.”
In contrast, he boasted of his lifelong preparation for such events, implying a more natural and authentic approach to debating.
Trump’s debate performance, however, received mixed reviews.
Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume offered a critical assessment, stating Trump “had a bad night” and suggesting that his reliance on “old grievances” might not be politically advantageous.
On the other side of the aisle, former Democratic congressman and “The Five” co-host Harold Ford, Jr. acknowledged that Trump’s opponent could have provided more specifics in her answers and better addressed the changes in her policy positions.
Elon Musk, who has been a vocal supporter of Trump over Harris in recent weeks, took to X to rip the moderators of the debate too.
He acknowledged that Harris performed far better than expected, however.
“While I don’t think the debate hosts were fair to [Trump], [Harris] exceeded most people’s expectations tonight,” Musk said following the debate.
“That said,” he continued, “when it comes to getting things done, not just saying nice-sounding words, I strongly believe that Trump will do a far better job.”
“If Kamala can do great things, why hasn’t she? Biden rarely shows up for work, so she’s basically in charge already.”
As the 2024 presidential race heats up, this debate and its aftermath have undoubtedly set the stage for an intense and closely watched campaign season.
With the possibility of a second debate looming, all eyes will be on both candidates as they navigate the complex political landscape and vie for the nation’s top office.
