Former Republican VP Endorses Presidential Candidate

Former Republican VP Dick Cheney Endorses Kamala Harris

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has announced that he will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

Cheney, a Republican, served under then-President George W. Bush.

Notably, Cheney’s daughter is former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) — a Never Trumper.

While speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Texas, on Friday, Liz Cheney revealed that her father will support the current vice president, the New York Post reported.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said during the event.

The ex-Wyoming congresswoman claimed that if people are serious about “democracy,” then they must vote against former President Donald Trump.

“If you think about the moment we’re in, and you think about how serious this moment is, my dad believes — and he said publicly — there has never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is,” Liz Cheney said.

In a statement, Dick Cheney argued that Trump should never become president again, citing his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protests.

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” the former vice president wrote.

“He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again,” he added.

“As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution,” he continued. “That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Cheney’s statement comes after the former GOP vice president released a scathing ad in 2022 against Trump, calling him a “coward.”

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual that was a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney said in the commercial.

“He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters rejected him,” he claimed. “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters.”

“He lost the election, and he lost big,” Cheney continued. “I know that he knows it and deep down, I think most Republicans know it.”

In response to Cheney’s statement, the Trump campaign posted a video of the then-Republican presidential nominee rebuking the decision to invade Iraq under the Bush administration as “a big fat mistake” in 2016.

Trump pointed out that the U.S. spent $2 trillion because of the war in Iraq.

“Obviously, it was a mistake,” Trump said in 2016 during the GOP primary debates.

As the Post noted, Dick Cheney is widely considered one of the main architects of the Iraq war and the person who successfully convinced then-President Bush to invade Iraq and execute Saddam Hussein.

Liz Cheney’s remarks at the Texas Tribune come after she was blown out of the water in her reelection race by Trump-endorsed Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY). Cheney garnered just 29% support in the contest, per the New York Post.
